DHB and Ethics Committees
Did you know that District Health Board and Health and Disability Ethics Committee meetings are open to the public?
You can attend these meetings and find out what is happening in your DHB and in health and disability sector research. You can only attend the open parts of the meeting (the public is excluded from some parts of some meetings) and you can't speak or ask questions. However, you can sit and listen to what goes on, and these meetings offer a really interesting insight into how the health and disability sector works, in particular, what goes on in our DHBs.
The Health and Disability Ethics Committees (HDECs) are Ministerial committees (established under section 11 of the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act), whose function is to secure the benefits of health and disability research by checking that it meets or exceeds established ethical standards.
AWHC members attend most full Board, Hospital Advisory Committee and Community and Public Health Committee meetings at the three Auckland metro DHBs (Auckland DHB, Waitemat̄ā DHB and Counties Manukau DHB) and the Northern A Ethics Committee meetings.
